Quick Start
This page walks you through a first run with BASTA-Web using the provided example files. In a few minutes you can upload data, choose fitting options, and see the results.
What you need
Example stellar data and (optionally) frequency files.
An email address to receive the results.
Step 1 — Upload your data
Open the BASTA-Web site to the first page, where you can upload your stellar data. The form will check for data format and content, making sure you have provided all the required information for your fitting goals.
Optional choices on this page:
Fit distance or parallax. Requires sky coordinates and recognized photometric filters be included as columns in the stellar data file.
Include individual oscillation frequencies by uploading additional stellar data for a detailed asteroseismic fit.
Tips:
Start with the example files to see the expected layout.
Address any flagged fields, then click Check file format for BASTA when validation succeeds.
Step 2 — Choose BASTA controls
On the BASTA controls page you set how the fit is controlled.
At minimum:
Select the parameters to fit (i.e., which columns you want to use from your uploaded file).
Adjust search range limits to speed up the run.
Pick a theoretical stellar model grid to fit against.
If you have uploaded the example frequency file, you can enable advanced options here such as fitting against frequency ratios, epsilon differences and/or glitches.
You can also control the weighting of the individual oscillation frequencies against your global asteroseismic (dnu and numax), spectroscopic, and photometric surface parameters.
Submit and review
Click Start BASTA. You will see a confirmation page for a successful run, and a results link (valid for 48hrs) will be emailed to you. Your results include:
Best-fit parameters with uncertainties
Diagnostic plots
A summary of the inputs and selected controls
